About the Role

ITJobs.lk is currently sourcing an ambitious, high-caliber Intern Software Engineer with a specialized focus on AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP) for an Australian-based IT firm.

This 6-month full-time remote internship offers hands-on experience working directly with cutting-edge Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and NLP pipelines alongside a global engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing, building, and evaluating NLP workflows, models, and text-processing pipelines.

  • Support the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs), RAG architectures, and vector databases into production applications.

  • Perform text processing, tokenization, named entity recognition (NER), and sentiment analysis tasks.

  • Build and consume RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI/Flask) to deploy NLP microservices.

  • Participate in agile sprint planning, code reviews, and technical documentation alongside cross-border teams.

 

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Academic Background: Final-year Undergraduate or recent Graduate in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field.

  • NLP Project Experience (Mandatory): Must have completed academic, thesis, or personal projects with a strong focus on Natural Language Processing (NLP) (e.g., text classification, chatbots, sentiment analysis, semantic search, or LLM fine-tuning).

  • Technical Skills:

    • Strong proficiency in Python.

    • Exposure to NLP/AI libraries & frameworks (e.g., Hugging Face, spaCy, NLTK, PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain, or LlamaIndex).

    • Familiarity with vector search/databases (e.g., Pinecone, Chroma, Qdrant) is a plus.

    • Good understanding of Git version control and RESTful API development.

  • Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and strong written/spoken English communication skills to collaborate with Australian stakeholders.
