About the Role

We are seeking an innovative and tech-forward Software Engineer (AI Focus) to join a fast-growing IT firm based in Nawala, Sri Lanka. This is a full-time position offered as an initial 1-year renewable contract, operating on a hybrid work arrangement.

In this role, you will bridge modern full-stack web engineering with intelligent AI capabilities. Building upon a core stack of React, Next.js, and Node.js, you will design, develop, and integrate AI-driven features, Large Language Model (LLM) APIs, generative AI workflows, and smart automation agents into high-performance web applications.

Key Responsibilities

• AI-Powered Web Applications: Architect, build, and maintain responsive web applications using React and Next.js, enriched with AI capabilities and intelligent UI components.

• LLM & AI API Integration: Integrate and orchestrate LLM providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Claude, Hugging Face) and vector databases into application workflows via Node.js microservices and serverless functions.

• Full-Stack Development: Develop robust backend APIs and middleware in Node.js/TypeScript to handle prompt execution, streaming responses, data pipelines, and context management.

• RAG & Agentic Systems: Implement Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines, embedding setups, and AI agent frameworks to deliver personalized, context-aware user experiences.

• Performance & Optimization: Ensure high execution speed, efficient API token usage, responsive streaming UI, and Core Web Vitals optimization across Next.js SSR/SSG setups.

• Agile Collaboration: Partner with software architects, UI/UX designers, and product teams to translate AI concepts into reliable, production-ready digital products.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Location & Work Setup: Must be based in Sri Lanka and available for a Hybrid work arrangement in Nawala.

• Contract Commitment: Willingness to engage on an initial 1-year contract (with extension options based on performance).

• Experience Level: Minimum 3+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated hands-on exposure to AI integrations.

• Core Technical Stack:

  • Proficiency in React and Next.js (SSR/SSG, App Router, state management).

  • Solid working experience with Node.js and TypeScript for API design and backend middleware.

  • Practical experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face), AI SDKs (LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Vercel AI SDK), and vector databases (Pinecone, Qdrant, Chroma, or Pgvector).

  • Strong expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3 / Tailwind CSS.

  • Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and Git version control.

• Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, curiosity for emerging AI models/trends, and clear written and spoken English communication.

Good to Have Skills

• Familiarity with Python for AI scripting, model evaluation, or data processing.

• Exposure to prompt engineering optimization and fine-tuning concepts.

• Experience deploying AI applications on cloud platforms (AWS, Vercel) with CI/CD automation pipelines.
