About the Role

We are seeking a high-caliber Lead AI Engineer to guide and scale the artificial intelligence engineering team for a leading Australian-based IT firm. This is a 100% remote, full-time leadership position operating on Australian business hours for candidates based in Sri Lanka.

In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of AI engineers, architect complex AI/ML systems, and oversee project execution from concept to deployment. You will be responsible for aligning technical execution with strategic client goals, optimizing AI workflows, and ensuring engineering excellence across all deliverables.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Team Management: Lead, mentor, and oversee a team of AI/ML engineers, conducting code reviews, technical guidance, and driving performance.

  • AI Architecture & Strategy: Design and architect end-to-end scalable AI/ML solutions, GenAI applications, and LLM-powered enterprise workflows.

  • Delivery & Workflow Management: Manage project roadmaps, task distribution, and sprint tracking effectively using ClickUp.

  • Stakeholder & Client Engagement: Interface directly with Australian clients and business leads to translate business objectives into technical specifications and deliver progress updates.

  • MLOps & Quality Assurance: Enforce best practices for model testing, evaluation, continuous integration, and cloud deployment monitoring.

 

Qualifications & Key Requirements

  • Leadership Experience: Proven track record of leading, managing, or mentoring AI/ML engineers in a commercial setting.

  • Core Technical Mastery: Deep technical proficiency in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, LLMs, RAG architectures, vector databases, and MLOps pipelines.

  • Project Management Tools: Hands-on experience managing workflows and team tasks in ClickUp.

  • Australian Market Exposure: Prior experience collaborating with Australian-based clients or managing Australian projects is a strong added advantage.

  • Communication Skills: Exceptional executive-level verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Timezone Alignment & Setup: Full commitment to working Australian business hours from Sri Lanka, backed by a reliable remote work setup (high-speed internet and power backup).
