About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager – Data Science to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge AI, Machine Learning, and Generative AI solutions. This is a full-time, hybrid position based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In this role, you will bridge technical expertise and strategic execution by architecting end-to-end AI systems, guiding MLOps practices, and translating complex business challenges into scalable enterprise solutions. You will collaborate closely with domain experts, software engineering teams, and key business stakeholders to build state-of-the-art AI applications incorporating LLMs, NLP, and vector search technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• AI Solution Architecture: Contribute to the design, architectural strategy, and deployment of state-of-the-art AI and Machine Learning models.

• Generative AI & LLM Implementation: Build, test, and optimize solutions using Large Language Models (LLMs), generative AI, Hugging Face Transformers, and Azure OpenAI GPT APIs.

• Data Engineering & Vector Databases: Curate, clean, and preprocess large-scale datasets. Utilize vector databases (e.g., Redis) and NoSQL stores to implement efficient similarity search and information retrieval pipelines.

• Pipeline & System Optimization: Implement end-to-end processing and deployment pipelines for AI projects, ensuring seamless integration, high throughput, and model evaluation.

• Stakeholder Alignment: Work directly with business leaders and clients to identify opportunities, define project goals, and deliver tailored AI solutions aligned with commercial objectives.

• Ethical AI & Compliance: Enforce trusted AI practices—ensuring data privacy, security, transparency, fairness, and governance across all deployed models.

• Advanced Research: Evaluate advanced techniques such as transfer learning, domain adaptation, Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP) optimization, and model compression to enhance performance and efficiency.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Location & Work Setup: Based in Sri Lanka and available for a Hybrid work setup in Colombo.

• Experience: Minimum 7+ years of hands-on experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, and AI solutions delivery.

• Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (Ph.D. is a plus).

• Core Technical Stack:

  • Advanced proficiency in Python or R, and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.

  • Strong expertise in NLP (BERT, GPT, Transformer architectures) and Generative AI application design.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and deploying AI systems in cloud environments.

  • Solid data engineering skills including dataset curation, cleaning, and preprocessing.

• Soft Skills: Excellent analytical problem-solving skills, strong verbal and written communication, and proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary technical and business teams.

Good to Have Skills

• DevOps & MLOps: Experience setting up CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), version control (Git), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

• Optimization Techniques: Practical application of optimization tools, including Mixed-Integer Programming (MIP).

• Model Observability: Experience with continuous monitoring, logging, and performance tracking of production AI models.

• Computer Vision: Basic familiarity with image recognition, object detection, or generative vision models.
